About the Chief Librarian

Emmanuel Akpevwoghene Odjegba is a dedicated and accomplished library and information professional with a strong passion for knowledge management, information accessibility, and the advancement of library services in educational institutions. He is currently the Chief Librarian at St. Francis Catholic College of Nursing Sciences, Okpara-Inland, Delta State, where he provides strategic leadership in the planning, development, and effective management of library resources and services to support teaching, learning, and research activities. Emmanuel began his academic journey at Ajibay Academy, Lagos, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE). He proceeded to Delta State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Library and Information Science. Driven by a commitment to professional growth and excellence, he further advanced his education at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtaining a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Information Management. With years of professional experience as a Chief Librarian, Emmanuel has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in library administration, information organization, resource management, and the delivery of effective information services. His role involves coordinating library operations, implementing innovative information management practices, guiding library staff, and ensuring that users have access to relevant and reliable information resources.

Leadership and Responsibilities

As the Chief Librarian at St. Francis Catholic College of Nursing Sciences, Okpara-Inland, Delta State, Mr Odjegba provides strategic leadership and professional direction in the administration and development of the college library. His leadership role involves ensuring that the library functions effectively as a centre for learning, research, and access to quality information resources that support the academic goals of the institution. As Chief Librarian, Mr. Odjegba is responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of library operations, including the management of library collections, staff development, user services, and the implementation of policies that promote efficient information delivery. He provides leadership in the acquisition, organization, preservation, and accessibility of print and electronic information resources to meet the needs of students, lecturers, researchers, and other members of the academic community.

Vision for the Institution

My vision is to establish and sustain a modern, innovative, and user-centred library that serves as a strong foundation for academic excellence, research advancement, and lifelong learning. I envision a library environment where students, lecturers, and researchers have seamless access to relevant, reliable, and up-to-date information resources that enhance teaching, learning, and professional development.

Educational Background

He commenced his early education at Eregbe Primary school Okoredafe where he has his first school leaving certificate , he then proceeded to Ajibay Academy, Lagos, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE). His passion for knowledge organization, information services, and the management of information resources led him to pursue higher education in the field of librarianship. Emmanuel obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Library and Information Science from Delta State University. During his undergraduate studies, he developed a strong understanding of library operations, information organization, research support services, and the role of libraries in promoting academic development. To further enhance his professional competence and broaden his expertise in information management, he proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Information Management. This advanced training strengthened his knowledge of information systems, digital information resources, knowledge management, and contemporary approaches to managing information in academic and professional environments.

Professional Interests

Mr. Odjegba has a strong professional interest in the advancement of library and information services through effective knowledge management, innovative information practices, and the integration of technology into library operations. His areas of interest are centred on improving access to quality information resources and developing library systems that effectively support teaching, learning, and research. He is particularly interested in information management, digital library development, information literacy, knowledge organization, and the application of emerging technologies to enhance library services. His professional focus includes exploring modern approaches to the collection, organization, preservation, and dissemination of information resources to meet the evolving needs of academic communities.
